WHO IS HHW?

Zimmermeister Thomas Rauch

- Lehrjahre -

After graduation in 2003 at the Maxim Gorki School Heringsdorf I started my carpentry training in the carpentry Matthias Hartig in Christinenhof and acquired in 2007 in front of the Chamber of Crafts Neubrandenburg my carpentry apprenticeship diploma with distinction.

In this carpentry, which is located nearby Waren/Müritz in Mecklenburg I was able to learn my crafts specially in heritage conservation and renovation of churches, castles and antique houses.

Highly precise elaborations, traditional wood connections, working with century old woods and the close cooperation with experienced carpenters, restorers, conservators and architects have formed me ever since.

-my heart on a journey-

In 2007 I decided to go to the Association of - Rechtschaffene Zimmer und Schieferdeckergesellen - of Löcknitz that is under the custody of the Altgeselle and r.frd. Tischlermeister Stefan Orschinack.

From there I started a nearly four-year traditional journey around the world.

The virtues of rectitude and honor, the infinite freedom of travelling and the ongoing exploration had been part of my journey and so I could educate myself on craftsmanship and human skills.

A barn renovation in Bavaria, the building of a historical boat and restoration of a windmill head in Denmark, the conversion of a mountain cabin in 2000 meters altitude in Northern Italy, ecological timber frame constructions in Switzerland, a beach house with palm roof on the Pacific coast of Mexico, a tropical exotic wood Lounge in Thailand... These and many other projects, kept driving me and my wanderlust further to other extraordinary places and made me meet even more extraordinary people.

After many years of separation from my home, family and friends I came back to my hometown Seebad Heringsdorf on the Island of Usedom with a joyful and warm hearted feeling on June 11th 2011.

Influenced by the experiences of the journey and my memories of independence while traveling, I realized that only self-employment could full fill my professional needs. A short time after my arrival I decided to attend the Master Carpentry Course at the Leistungszentrum Lüneburg. On July 2012, I obtained my title as Master of Carpentry in front of the Chamber of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Stade and then started to establish my dream: The carpentry HandHolzWerk Insel Usedom.
